Numerical Investigation of Inclined Piles under Liquefaction-Induced Lateral Spreading

نویسندگان

چکیده

Inclined piles have been widely applied as one of the countermeasures against large lateral spreading induced by soil liquefaction during earthquakes. However, unsatisfactory performance inclined in past events has impeded their application seismic areas. To elucidate when subjected to liquefaction, numerical analyzes were performed using OpenSees framework. For this purpose, a comprehensive three-dimensional finite element model was developed. Interface elements used between and pile account for friction gapping mechanisms. A multi-yield-surface plasticity constitutive relationship sand adopted simulate behavior. Based on proposed model, parametric conducted investigate influence various factors behavior piles, including raked angle pile, ground slope, profile, amplitude input motion. The response system indicates that can behave better than vertical decreasing deformation cap response. influences investigated are highlighted adopt appropriate inclination laterally maximize advantages piles.

Numerical modeling of liquefaction-induced lateral spreading

ABSTRACT: Liquefaction-induced lateral spreading of soils caused by strong shaking requires careful evaluation to be properly accounted for in geotechnical, and structural design of strategic infrastructure located in highly active seismic coastal regions. Although a large number of empirical and semiempirical models are available, there is still a lot of inconsistency in their predictions. In ...

Numerical Simulation of Piles Subjected To Lateral Spreading and Comparison with Shaking Table Results

Pile foundations are relatively vulnerable to lateral loads. During liquefaction-induced lateral spreading, this vulnerability is particularly conspicuous due to a loss of strength and stiffness in the liquefied soil. A nonlinear effective stress analysis incorporating an elastoplastic constitutive model based on Finite Difference Method (FLAC2D program) was used to numerically simulate shake t...

Numerical investigation on the optimal location of floating piles in slope under seismic

Location of floating piles is one of the main factors influencing on their optimal performance with respect to slope stability improvement. Many studies have been devoted to this concern using different analytical methods. Due to the importance of this issue in seismic conditions, still more studies are necessary and therefore, the location of floating piles has been investigated in this resear...
